Mahuru | Hepetema  | September

Kia ora koutou,

Spring is here! It’s starting to warm up outside and the arrival of a new season reminds us that there’s always a chance to start things anew or refresh what’s old. It’s also Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. I hope you and your learners have enjoyed the week so far. There are lots of great resources out there for learning te reo Māori, some of which we’ve shared here further down in this newsletter.

There’s a lot going on in the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) space right now. We are continuing our work on keeping ITE up-to-date and to a high standard. In 2019, Matatū Aotearoa | Teaching Council introduced the ITE Programme Approval, Monitoring and Review Requirements. We are now at a stage where most ITE providers have been using the new requirements for a few years. So, it’s now important that we monitor the new programmes and build a picture of the impact of the requirements on graduate outcomes and the teaching profession. A consultation period is now open and underway, and you can read more about this further below. Your feedback is crucial, and we really do hope to hear from you.

As always, we have a lot of important information to share with you in this month’s newsletter. I hope you have some free time in your schedule to sit down, perhaps even somewhere outside to enjoy that spring weather, and have a read through.

Noho ora mai,

Lesley Hoskin,
Tumu Whakarae | Chief Executive
